Summery Midweek Moments from both of us today:
I took this photo of a frangipani in our pool. The flower was already struggling in the heat and chlorinated water, but I still liked the photo. Maybe it’s the detail: the colour of the petals, the tiny water droplets, the glint of the sunlight, and my camera even managed to capture the lip of water around each petal as it broke the surface.
When Monique’s husband went out to collect their morning paper, this not-so-little praying mantis dropped from the roof and landed next to his foot. Monique said she would have screamed, but her husband was very calm. She managed to get up close and personal with him, and found him curious and alert, even though she was only centimetres from his face.
Midweek Moment is a weekly photographic project in which Monique Mulligan and I team up to share our favourite photos on our websites. It’s a way of stretching ourselves creatively and a nice distraction from writing. Click here for more of our Moments.
Brilliant photographs! Happy Mid-week to you Louise!
Thanks, Anonymous! Happy Midweek to you, too!
Oops! And happy Mid-week to Monique too!
Thanks, Marlish—I’ll let her know! x
Stunning! Wow, Louise.
Thanks, Gulara! Sometimes it’s hard to come up with ideas, and other times, it’s easy!
Gorgeous shot of the frangipani, Louise. I love mantids though probably wouldn’t if I was a male of the species following an amorous encounter.
‘Off with his head!’ I guess it solves custody battles. 😉
Beautiful photo Louise. It’s perfect. We had frangipani in South Florida (at least I remember the name.) Is it a native species for you?
Monique captured an amazing moment. I never realized how angular a praying mantis is.BTW I would have screamed too.
I don’t believe the frangipani is a native, but I might be wrong, Penny. It’s flowering here in WA at the moment, and looking lovely. I think they’re my favourite flowers!
It’s a wonderful photo of the praying mantis—the detail in its claws, eyes, and head. They’re amazing creatures, that’s for sure.
Oh, I know I’m late commenting on this one – I love both photos, as usual. The frangipani in the pool is such a lovely image, evoking holidays past. And the mantis has such a lovely face – an odd thing to say about an insect, I know, but he almost seems to be posing 🙂
I agree—his face is lovely. They all look like that—haven’t met a mean-looking mantid yet! I’ve become a bit infatuated with them since seeing all the detail in their tiny bodies from our macro shots. They’re amazing.
Yes, the frangipani does evoke summer and a holiday mood.
Thanks for visiting! x
I always enjoy visiting 🙂
We love that you do! 🙂
