Our Midweek Moment is full of Autumn colour:
After the storms at the weekend, and as Autumn ebbs and the air chills, many of the trees are already stripped bare. However, the skies cleared briefly yesterday morning, and I managed to find some sunlight and colour.
After a few months’ break (working on other projects), Monique has returned to her novel. As it always takes a while to reacquaint herself with the characters and settings, she’s been looking through photos of the area in which the story is set. She loved this photo of a road on a cool Autumn day—it made her want to follow it and see where it leads.
I love the colours in the leaves—shades of green and yellow, and also burnt orange and mauve and blue. What a magical setting for a story!

Autumn was always my favourite time of year when I lived in Australia, and both you and Monique have captured the beauty of the season. The leaves didn’t change much where we lived on the coast, but there was a richness to the air that was unlike any other time of year. Gorgeous photos 🙂
I am definitely an Autumn person—the colour of the leaves, the more temperate weather, and the sense that everything is settling down after the extremes of summer. Probably because of the auburn colour of my hair, Autumn colours seem to suit me best—another reason to love it! But you’re right about the leaves of our native trees not changing much—I think we only have one that’s deciduous!
Yes, I just love the sense of melancholy in the air, the bittersweet end of summer heading towards winter, yet the land is burgeoning with fruit. I loved the warm days and cool nights as well, a welcome change after the summer heatwaves. There were a lot of farms and wineries just inland from where we lived, and it was just the best time of year to visit. My mother is a redhead, though I’m naturally blonde, so perhaps hair colour does have something to do with seasonal preference… 🙂
I agree that Autumn is bittersweet—the fun of summer and holidays has ended, and the days seem to close in as they cool. Yet, it’s welcome, too—summer, especially here in Perth, can be too much of a good thing!
Farms and wineries are at their most picturesque in Autumn—it’s the English trees.
And tell your mother that I love her hair colour!
Thanks, as always, for commenting. xx
Happy weekend to you, Louise – enjoy the wonderful autumn ????
I still wish Summer was a-coming! Lucky you! x
