I’m still swimming lots, of course – couldn’t survive without it. But now the open water season’s over, it was back to the pool and trying to build some speed. (Note the word ‘trying’ – speed’s not my thing!) I must say, my body’s tired and I’m looking forward to a rest, but I can’t seem to cure my addiction to water – tips welcome!

A packed house at the AH Bracks Library in Melvill A packed house at the AH Bracks Library in Melville tonight for the launch of Emily Paull’s début novel, The Distance Between Dreams.

In conversation with Michael Burrows, Emily talked about her long pathway to publication (it began when she was a 17- year old Year 12 student), the reason she set the book in Fremantle (it was where she hung out with her friends) and the dreams of her two protagonists, Winston and Sarah.

So lovely to see Emily’s own dream come true tonight!

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve read this book, or parts of it, over the past ten years or more – yes, it takes a long time to write a book! I’ve seen it evolve and mature each time, as @incredibleramblingelimy has redrafted and refined it. It’s so nice to hold the finished product in my hands.

The book is about two young people from very different backgrounds who fall in love just before the outbreak of WWII. It’s set in Fremantle, and is for all lovers of historical fiction, especially if you’re a romantic at heart.
